How can your pets help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions?

The start of the year brings promises of resolutions and an improvement in diet and health. So, why not make it more fun and make the promise to your furriest family members as well? Having someone relying on you ensures that you keep those January promises.

Having a pet is the perfect commitment to keep up your active lifestyle, and the benefits are plentiful!

Through the winter we must take extra care to keep our pets active and there are plenty of options to keep your dogs and cats at their best.

Don’t rule out indoor activities though. Hiding your pets’ food for them to discover or providing a Busy Buddy® Kibble Nibble™ Feeder Ball or a Fishbowl Cat Feeder Toy can make a mealtime something to enjoy.

Whilst there are great ways to keep your fuzzy family members entertained inside, there is little else that compares to the great outdoors.

For cats, they are lot less inclined to explore the cold when there is a warm heater to curl up next to, so make sure extra play time is available to exercise them and allow them to use their predatory instincts. Be aware of the safety of any outdoor shelters that may become your cats’ winter outdoor space.

On the other hand, our canine companions need a lot more exercise and regular walks. Walking your dog has some amazing effects on both your dog’s health, and your own.

The immediate benefit of being outside is fresh air because it elevates your mood and allows time to think and clear your mind, resulting in a calmer mood, for yourself and your pup.

Being active outdoors comes easily and walking and jogging with your dog also allows you to have some company and improves circulation which lowers the risk of cardiac issues.

The National Trust is a great place to get you going and they have a nationwide list of dog friendly walks from ancient parks to vast valleys and wild woodlands. A day trip out would surely set a tail wagging!

When out and about, we’d suggest keeping your dog on a leash in built up areas and under control when around other animals. Our Easy Walk™ Harness is designed to gently discourage dogs from pulling while walking on a lead, allowing you both to enjoy your walkies, wherever they may take you!

Whatever your resolutions are for the coming year, stay positive in the fact that whether you are succeeding or whether things aren’t going quite to plan, there’s a four legged fluffball that will love you no matter what and whose mission is to make you smile.
