Often when we’re out at shows and exhibitions we’re asked the question ‘Do you know of any good, dog-friendly holiday companies or destinations?’
So we thought the best thing to do would be to ask some dog owners we know which companies they use and what they’re reading online, for some real and relevant insight into what can seem daunting at times, especially if you’re a new owner.
You’ll want to be reassured there’s room to roam and play, that it’s cosy and warm and above all that you’ll be welcomed with your dog as if it were your own home. There’s a myriad of holiday cottages and hotel brands who welcome dogs and their owners, so how do you know if they’re what you’re looking for?
Well, as there’s no ‘star rating’ system, then our dog owner friends have told us they look first of all for personal referrals through Facebook and Twitter connections. They’ll then go online to TripAdvisor and check for any feedback posted and benchmark the comments against official listings for properties online.
They’ll also look at specific dog-friendly websites*, such as for example:
And some of them have also purchased dog-friendly travel guides* such as for example:-
• Dog Friendly Breaks in Britain by Alistair Sawday
• The AA Book of Pet Friendly Places to Stay
• Good Guide to Dog Friendly Pubs, Hotels & B&Bs: 5th Edition by Alisdair Aird/Fiona Stapley
So it seems there’s a bit of researching and reading to do before you set off on holiday together but isn’t that always the way?! We’d love to hear some of your doggy holiday stories and see some of your snaps, so why not head to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/petsafeuk and let us know?
* We’d like to point out we’re not affiliated to any of the above websites, companies or publishers in any way. We’d recommend you as a dog owner should research your doggy holiday options thoroughly before setting off on your adventures together.
