Training Systems - Support

• Eliminate one misbehaviour or teach one obedience command at a time. If you move too fast with training, your pet may become confused.
• Be consistent. Communicate with your pet using the remote trainer every time he misbehaves.
• Unless you can supervise him, it is recommended that you restrict your pet from situations in which he has a history of misbehaving. However, setting up a situation as a training session can dramatically improve your chances of success.
• If your pet reacts to the tones by hiding or acting fearful, redirect his attention to a simple and appropriate behavior, such as the sit command.
• Pets should be at least 6 months old before using the Trainer.
• Only let responsible family members use the Trainer. It is not a toy.
• Other pets in hearing range will be affected by the training tones. Therefore, training sessions should be conducted out of hearing range of other pets.
• Never use the Remote Trainer to correct or eliminate any form of aggressive behaviour. If you are unsure if your dog is aggressive, please consult your veterinarian or a certified trainer.

Once you have correctly placed the receiver collar on your pet (see your manual or read How do I fit the collar?), it is time to find the stimulation level that is best for him. This is called the Recognition Level. At the right recognition level, you will notice only a slight change in your pet's behavior, such as looking around in curiosity, scratching at his collar, or flicking his ears. Follow these steps to find your pet's Recognition Level.

1. Make sure the collar is delivering static stimulation by using the test light tool. If the test light tool doesn’t light up, see The test light does not come on when I press a button on the remote.
2. Starting at the lowest level of stimulation, press the stimulation button continuously for 1 to 2 seconds.
3. If your pet shows no reaction, repeat the stimulation level several times before moving up to the next stimulation level and repeating step 1.
4. YOUR PET SHOULD NOT VOCALISE OR PANIC WHEN RECEIVING STIMULATION. If this happens, the stimulation level is too high. Go back to a lower stimulation level and repeat the process.
5. Move up through the stimulation levels until your pet reliably responds to the stimulation but does not vocalize or panic.
6. If you have tried the highest level of stimulation and your pet continues to show no response, check the fit of the collar or trim your pet’s fur where the contact points touch skin (read more about collar fit). Then go back to step 1 and repeat the process.
7. If the stimulation is working but your dog is not responding, follow the steps under My dog is not responding to the remote trainer. If after completing all of these steps your dog still does not indicate he is feeling the stimulation, please contact our Customer Care Centre.

Your pet should be at least 6 months old and be able to recognise basic obedience commands such as ‘sit’ and ‘stay’.

We do not recommend any of our products be used on aggressive dogs. If you are unsure if your dog is aggressive, please consult your veterinarian or a certified trainer.

Probably not, but it depends on how well your dog listens to your commands without the collar on. He may need to wear the collar from time to time for reinforcement.

• Verify collar is turned on.
• Check batteries or check battery charge of collar and transmitter.
• Check the stimulation on the collar with the test light tool (for collars with static stimulation).
• Ensure proper collar fit. Place the receiver on dog's neck close to the ears. Fit should be snug, allowing 1 finger to fit between the end of the contact point and the dog's neck.
• Make sure the collar is set to the right stimulation level or mode.
• Make sure the transmitter is set to the right stimulation level or mode. Maybe a mode has been chosen for more than 1 dog, while you only have 1 dog/collar synchronised.
• Increase the stimulation level. You can use the Boost button if your system has one.
• Synchronise collar and transmitter if necessary.
• Your dog may have become used to the stimulation. Stop using the collar for a few weeks, or switch to tone mode if your collar has this feature.
• Make sure your dog is within range of the system. Test the system standing very close to your dog, then gradually increase the distance to find the system’s maximum range in that location.
• If your dog is not responding but the collar is working, repeat training steps. Some dogs benefit from an occasional reminder lesson.
• If there was a specific incident when your dog failed to respond to the trainer, consider the situation. Was there a distraction, such as a rabbit running by or a barking dog? You might need to use a higher level of stimulation in these cases, and you can use lower levels when your dog is more relaxed or less distracted.

For collars with static stimulation

• Make sure the contact probes are making skin contact. This is where the static stimulation is delivered.
• Trim your dog's fur where the contact points touch the neck. Do not shave your dog’s fur.
• Purchase long contact points or use the ones included with your system if applicable.

For collars with spray stimulation

Make sure there is enough spray in the collar.

Typical range is 65-75% of the maximum range due to terrain, weather, buildings, cables, hills/valleys, power lines, etc. If you are in a high-influence area, for example near big radio-emitters or high-power-lines, this can reduce greatly the range. The same can happen if you are on the top of a hill while your dog is in the valley, or vice versa.

If you are experiencing less than 50% range or if these environmental factors have been eliminated:

• Try your trainer in a different area.
• Replace the batteries, or if they are rechargeable, ensure the collar and transmitter are charged.
• Ensure the remote transmitter and the collar are correctly synchronised.
• If your remote has an antenna that can be screwed on, make sure it is tight.

• Be sure that collar and remote are correctly charged and/or have batteries with enough charge.
• Check if the collar and remote are still synchronised, or just as a precaution, follow the procedure anyway. Check your manual for instructions on synchronising for your specific product.
• Remove the battery from the collar and press a button on the remote to give a stimulation. Then reinsert the battery and try again. The system needs to be synchronised for this to work.

It can be very concerning to find a lost pet and most of us want to find the owner as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, at this time, there is not a way to match the collar with the owner. Please contact your local authorities to understand what services are available in your area to help locate the owner.

• Make sure that the battery is not installed in the receiver collar.
• Start with your pet standing comfortably.
• Center the contact points underneath your pet’s neck, touching the skin. If your pet has a long or thick coat, consider using the long contact points to reach through the fur.  These can be purchased by contacting our Customer Care Center. You might need to trim the hair around the contact points to make sure that contact is consistent.
• Check the tightness of the receiver collar by inserting one finger between the end of a contact point and your pet’s neck. The fit should be snug but not constricting.
• Allow your pet to wear the collar for several minutes then recheck the fit. Check the fit again as your pet becomes more comfortable with the receiver collar.
• If the collar strap is too long, you can trim the collar. Mark the desired length of the receiver collar with a pen. Allow for growth if your pet is young or grows a thick winter coat.
• Remove the receiver collar from your pet and cut off the excess.
• If your receiver has a nylon strap, seal the edge of the cut collar by applying a flame along the frayed edge.

While the static stimulation is unpleasant, it is harmless to your pet. Electronic training devices require interaction and training from the owner to achieve the desired results.

This very rare incident occurs when the collar is worn longer than designed. We recommend it not be worn more than 12 hours per day. Please discontinue using the collar until the affected area has healed and consult a veterinarian if necessary. This situation is not limited to static stimulation collars; it can happen with any collar your pet wears for too long.

• Be sure that collar and remote are correctly charged and/or have batteries with enough charge.
• Be sure the test light is connected correctly to both prongs.
• Increase the stimulation level by one. On low levels, the light will only glow a bit, so it can be hard to see.

No. The spray is very fine and simply creates a mist in the region of the snout.

The spray is not harmful. The burst of spray distracts or interrupts your dog's pattern of behaviour. Spray is available in citronella scent or unscented refill cans. Some dogs find one scent to be slightly more unpleasant than another and this can make fast training at times or you, as the owner, may have a preference. Regardless of the scent, the spray dissipates quickly and is safe for humans and pets.

• If the collar takes batteries, try replacing the batteries.
• If the collar is rechargeable - ensure the collar is fully charged and is making a good connection with the power cord when charging.
• Verify the collar has been turned on.
• Occasionally, the collar and transmitter need to be synchronised. Check your manual for instructions on synchronising for your specific product.
• If it is still not responding, please contact our Customer Care Centre.

1. Make sure the unit is turned on.
2. Be sure that the collar and remote are correctly charged and/or have batteries with enough charge.
3. Make sure there is enough spray in the collar.
4. If your collar is equipped with a counter (Spray Trainer), check if it needs to be reset.
5. If you have not used the system for a longer period, sometimes the spray can dry in the outlet valve. To resolve this, hold the collar under warm water (max. 35-40 degrees Celsius) for a few minutes. This should make the spray fluid again. Dry thoroughly afterwards.
6. Sometimes air can get trapped in the collar, which will impede the spray to make enough pressure to come out, or the air can be blocking the outlet valve. To remove trapped air:
   • Empty the collar of all spray by pressing down into the spray inlet-valve (where you would normally fill it) with a small screwdriver or old pen. Keep your face away from the spray and watch for the small black washer, as it can sometimes fall out.
   • All of the spray should now come out. Continue to press until empty. It should take 5-15 seconds to release any air blocked inside.
   • Give the collar a couple of taps on a hard surface to mix everything. Press again with a small screwdriver in case there is anything left.
   • Refill the collar. Turn it on and test again.
   • For the SSSCat™ Spray Deterrent Kit: Turn the unit off. Remove the motion detector from the refill can. Turn on the device. Wait 30 seconds. Pass your hand in front of the device. If you hear a click, put the motion detector back in the can. Then if it still won’t work, contact the Customer Care Centre for a replacement.

• Make sure to hold the spray can upright, not at an angle, to create a good seal around spray nozzle.
• Press firmly on the spray can to help create a good seal.
• Make sure the black rubber washer is still in place around the filler-hole in the middle.
• If the unit still leaks, please contact Customer Care.

Gently clean around the spray nozzle with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

The correctly sized harness for your dog is determined by their width/girth measurement, as measured from behind their front legs. Measure your dog's width/girth by wrapping a tape measure around your dog's chest, just behind the front legs.

1. Open the quick-snap buckle on the belly strap. 
2. Place the shoulder strap over the dog's head with the chest strap resting on the dog's chest.
3. Tighten belly strap to a comfortably snug fit. On medium-sized dogs, only allow room for about a finger's width under the strap. Allow a bit more for larger dogs, less for smaller dogs. 
4. Gently press fingers on the lower part of the front of the dog's chest to locate the breastbone. 
5. Adjust the shoulder strap so that when the chest strap is horizontal (parallel to the ground), the chest strap rests directly over the breast bone. 
6. AFTER you have tightened both the shoulder and belly straps, adjust the chest strap to fit securely. It should rest nearly parallel to the ground, not hang down or gape.
7. You may need to remove the harness to make these adjustments.
8. When the shoulder strap is fitted correctly, the chest strap should resemble a horizontal line (parallel to the ground), and it will rest directly over the breastbone. 
9. Attach the lead to the D-ring on the chest strap. 

Yes, but please be responsible. The Easy Walk® Harness was created for making walks with your dog enjoyable and pull-free. Should you choose to run or jog with your dog, please be mindful of the possibility of chafing and discontinue use at the first sign of discomfort.

We don't recommend using your harness with a retractable lead. With a retractable lead, your dog is rewarded with additional room on the lead when he pulls ahead. You want your dog to learn to not pull ahead. In addition, a retractable lead will always apply a slight constant pressure, teaching your dog it is okay to continue pulling.

All dogs have a natural opposition reflex - if you push against them, they push back. Any collar that puts pressure at the front of the throat actually works against the owner by increasing the dog's instinct to pull forward. Not only do these products not solve the pulling problem, they can cause choking and pain for the dogs. The Easy Walk® removes a dog's instinct to pull forward by eliminating pressure from the throat area.

Each piece of your harness has an identifying feature. The shoulder strap features an Easy Walk® tag. The chest strap is clearly identified by the martingale loop and the D-ring attachment for the lead. The belly strap is an alternate but coordinating colour.

Fit is crucial to the effectiveness of the Easy Walk® Harness. The width/girth portion (made up of the shoulder and belly straps) provide the foundation for a good fit and must be snug. The chest strap should also be correctly fitted, to avoid any drooping or gaping when the dog walks. If the chest strap will not adjust enough to give you a proper fit that is parallel to the ground, your dog may need a smaller Easy Walk® Harness.

We guarantee the materials and workmanship of the Easy Walk® Harness, but we can't keep your dog from chewing it! Please be sure to supervise your dog while he wears the Easy Walk® Harness and store it safely when not in use. If your dog does chew the Easy Walk® Harness, call our Customer Care Centre.

For dogs with additional training issues like jumping, barking and excessive pulling and lunging, we recommend the Easy Walk® Headcollar as it offers owners much greater control. We also recommend the Easy Walk® Headcollar for dogs that are shy, nervous or fearful. The soft, comfortable nose loop and the snug, high neck strap have a remarkable calming and reassuring influence for these dogs. Professionals and owners alike are amazed at the greater confidence these dogs show when wearing the Easy Walk® Headcollar.

Need a tool for dealing with more serious behavior problems such as aggression? We recommend the Easy Walk® Headcollar and the advice of a professional behaviorist, veterinarian, or trainer. The Easy Walk® Headcollar has been proven to be highly successful when incorporated into a behaviour treatment and modification program.

Consider your dog's weight based on the chart below. Next, look at the shape of the dog's head and snout. Breeds with long slender heads may take a smaller size than other dogs of the same weight. Breeds with wide muzzles may need a slightly larger size. When in doubt, choose the next larger size.

Fitting is very important with the Easy Walk. 99% of problems that occur with the product are due to an improper fit. When one first purchases the product, it is best to take a few minutes to read the training guide. Here are a couple of tips:

When fitted properly and viewed from the side the Easy Walk will be in the shape of V for Victory. If the neck strap is too loose, the Easy Walk will incorrectly resemble an L for Loser.

Neck Strap fit

The neck strap must be positioned as high on the neck as possible, directly behind the ears and touching the base of the skull in back and above the Adam's apple in front. It should fit very snugly at the top of the neck so that one can barely get a single finger underneath, like a watch strap. It doesn't cause discomfort to the dog.

Nose Loop Strap fit

Loose and comfortable so that the dog can freely open his/her mouth, but not so loose that it can be pulled off over the nose. It should rest close to the dog's eyes and behind the corners of the mouth.

The principle behind the Easy Walk Headcollar is one that allows owners to communicate with their pet in a way that dogs instinctively understand. The nose loop encircles the dog's muzzle and applies light pressure in the same manner in which the lead dogs naturally communicate with dogs lower in rank. Because of the placement of the nose loop, the dog immediately understands his/her place in the hierarchy. The dog considers the owner his/her leader.

Advantages for people

• Stops pulling on the lead. With the Easy Walk Headcollar, you steer the dog's nose and the body will follow. It's virtually impossible for a dog to drag his handler down the street when his head is turned.
• Control. With the Easy Walk, you only have to compete with the strength of a dog's neck and head not all of the power packed in the body. This makes it easy for anyone to walk big or strong dogs.
• Safety. Unlike the choke chain or prong collars, the Easy Walk Headcollar is safe to use on puppies as young as 8 weeks old. There is very little pressure applied to the dog's muzzle and no pressure on the throat.
• Flexibility. The Headcollar can be sized to fit all dogs with an adjustable nose loop. And you have the option to convert the Headcollar to a regular collar if desired.

Advantages for dogs

• Comfort. The Headcollar eliminates uncomfortable pressure on the throat when pulling on a standard collar. The Easy Walk Headcollar is a positive, no-pain option for controlling a dog.
• Communication. Because of the placement of the collar, the dog understands his place in the hierarchy. The dog considers you his leader.

Connect lead to lead connector.

Move sternum slide down to make the opening large enough for the cat’s head. Slide shoulder straps on either side of cat’s head with lead connecter over the withers/back.

Adjust side straps for a snug girth fit.

Chest piece goes between legs and side girth straps behind front legs. Snap in place. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until fit is snug. Note that the connector O-ring should rest on the belly, just behind the cat’s front legs.

You may want to release the girth strap temporarily to make the next adjustment easier. Move the sternum slide to sit just below the cat’s breastbone so it will not ride up to your cat’s throat area. Re-snap the girth snaps into place.

Position the black rubber stopper near the lead connector to keep the shoulder straps in place. Check to see that tightening the lead doesn’t result in the sternum slide riding up too high, putting pressure on the trachea. If it does, adjust the sternum slide to sit lower on your cat’s chest.

If your dog forges ahead of you, gently pull the lead to the side to turn the dog towards you. As he stops pulling, be sure to release the tension on the lead. Use praise and reward your dog with treats and/or petting.

To slow your dog when he is pulling ahead, apply gentle pressure to the lead, pulling gently toward one side of the dog. Release the pressure on the leadwhen the dog is walking nicely next to you.
